Spring Wedding Dress Trend: Sparkle and Shimmer
The saying might be “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” but we think we need to add “and something glittery, too!”
Glitter has been a sartorial mainstay for so long, it’s no longer a trend — it’s just a way of life. And if you’re the kind of girl that fancies a bit of sparkle, you already know that your big day better have plenty of shimmer. Don’t think your bridesmaids get to have all the fun, either: you can rock a bit of sparkle on your wedding dress, too!
This spring, designers have been all about the flirty, whimsical flair of glitter. It’s feminine, it’s girly and (when done right) can look downright dazzling. Here’s our guide on the spring wedding dress trend, whether you’re into a little or a lot of sparkle.
Shimmer for the Minimal Girl
You’re the kind of girl that knows that a little bit of glitter can go a long way. All you want is a hint of sparkle to add texture and a fun element to your bridal look.
While sequins and beading can be wonderful tools to bring a shimmery touch to your gown, don’t feel limited to them! A shiny silk or satin make a beautiful visual, especially when paired against a matte fabric. Look no further than the Galizia gown above for an example of a sequin-free shimmer.
For a fairy-like ethereal look, opt for a dress that works gold or silver thread into the fabric, or that uses a shimmery metallic layer of tulle or organza as an overlay on the skirt or sleeves. The Jenny Yoo gown blends dusty rose and shimmering silver on the skirt, which looks stunning on both fair and dark skin.
Sparkle For The Modern Girl
Sparkle doesn’t scare you, but you know when to rein it in.
Instead of opting for a full-on glittery gown, keep it contained to just one part of the dress. The bodice is a great way to play around with textures and fabrics, as a ton of beading and sequins won’t add as much weight as having it on your skirt would. Additionally, a shinier bodice will draw the eye away from any areas you’d prefer to hide, like your stomach, your derriere or your hips.
The Lazaro gown (left) uses delicate sequins and beading, creating a princess-like style with the full, layered skirt. You can also use larger crystals (like the Hayley Page gown on the right) for a more modern look.
Glitter For The Dramatic Girl
You’re the kind of girl who has glitter in her veins! You need a bit of (or okay, a lot of) sparkle to feel at home, so be sure your dress reflects that!
Don’t be afraid of head-to-toe glitter. The Lazaro gowns above are perfect for the girl unafraid of making a statement. Besides, a little glitter never hurt anybody!
