Meghan and Harry’s Honeymoon Will Be Here
Hint: it’s not the Caribbean
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry marry later this month, they’ll be steeped in rich royal wedding tradition, clad in a Welsh gold wedding rings, and dazzling guests with the poshest portaloos of all time. What will break from royal tradition, however, is their choice of honeymoon destinations — because Meghan and Harry’s honeymoon will be in another fairly local European country.
Meghan and Harry’s honeymoon will reportedly be to the little-known-to-Americans Ionian island of Zante. The island, which is called Zakynthos in Greek, is the third largest of the Ionian islands and relatively small at approximately 156 square miles. The island is said to be named after Zakynthos, the son of legendary Arcadian chief, Dardanus, in Greek mythology.
In recent years the island has been home to many high profile honeymooning couples, and serves as an easy-to-reach European honeymoon destination for local notables and royalty. Plus, Greek food, right? We’re betting Meghan will have easy and delicious access to her favorite vegan fare, and that the island may even make our future list of dog friendly honeymoon destinations.
