Kristin and Brett’s NYC Courthouse Wedding Was Adorable
This NYC courthouse wedding was a blast
When you think of courthouse weddings, you probably don’t picture an exuberant bride and dashing husband, but that’s exactly what Kristin Lisi, 30, and beau Brett Buehler brought to courthouse steps. The bride, originally from Long Island, counted eight years of dating before Buehler, a North Carolina native, popped the question.
“Brett said he wanted to take me out for a nice dinner since I had been stressed at work and I didn’t think anything of it since we both love going out to eat,” recounts Kristin. “We went to one of our all time faves, and afterwards, even though I was stuffed and wanted to go home and put on sweats, Brett convinced me to go around the corner to another trendy place — where we had our first drink. At the bar, he ordered the drink I got on our first date — Bombay gin and tonic with extra lime — and as I turned around to grab it off the bar, he was getting down on one knee. Honestly, after that long of dating, I didn’t think it was real! The first thing I said was ‘Did you ask my dad?’ and once confirmed, I happily said yes!”
The couple, who waited so many years to tie the knot, just wanted their big day to be a big party.
“For us, this was such a celebration! Neither one of us wanted anything formal or too stressful. In the morning, we went with our immediate family to the NYC courthouse for the ceremony. New York played such an important role in our relationship and it just felt like the right place for us to get married. Plus, with such a mixed bag of religions in our families, this was a nice way to keep it neutral.”
The couple, who are postponing their honeymoon for a few months after their NYC courthouse wedding, say they plan to visit Hong Kong, Thailand, and Tokyo, but will keep filling their bellies with their much-loved New York pastrami until that time comes.
