DIY Wedding Decor: How to Create Table Glow Accents
Looking for distinctive modern DIY wedding decor? The table glow effect is the newest DIY wedding decor trend. It creates a luxe, romantic, sophisticated ambience in seconds–thrilling your wedding guests (and garnering numerous compliments from them, too). Any table can be made to instantly glow in any shade of color in just a few minutes. Here’s how to do it…
What Is Table Glow?
The table glow effect is when you highlight a table (or a group of tables) by placing one or two wireless uplights underneath it. You can set the uplights to any shade of any color. Immediately, your table linens have been transformed! We recommend two uplights per table for maximum glow, or one uplight per table for a subtle accent effect. They’re not expensive either; in fact, they can usually be rented for less than $25 per uplight–plus online rental companies make the light rental process super easy. Not only will the light fixture be delivered to your door, most companies also offer free shipping both ways, saving you time and money. (Now that’s a DIY wedding decor project we can handle!)
Test it at home
Once you have the uplight fixtures, you might want to road test them with a table that’s in your home. So, let’s start with the basics: First lay a white tablecloth over your table. Then, after turning it on and making sure that it works properly, you will then choose the color of the “glow” with a remote control. After you’ve selected the shade, place the uplight under the table. Tilt it until you see the linens light up with color. Voila! You’ve got an uplit table. It really is that easy to set up. The results are really expensive looking–and no one will ever guess you did it yourself.
Shades range from pale pastel to bright shades like chartreuse and fuchsia. Click here to see all the hues you can use. For best results, we recommend using white or light colored linens.
How many do you need?
Maximum Glow: two wireless uplights per banquet table
Accent Glow: one wireless uplight per banquet table
Most of our clients use two wireless uplights, which is usually enough coverage for the average size table, or one wireless uplight for smaller cake or altar tables.
Because the uplights run on batteries, you don’t have to worry about taping down cords, or having to hide them from view. On average, the uplight will glow for eight hours (and, after about that much time, the uplight will slowly become dimmer; they shouldn’t just turn off). Depending upon the color chosen, expect the uplight to last for a total of up to 10 hours.

Where do you place them?
Table glow is perfect for highlighting the cake or dessert table, banquet tables, the ceremony altar table, the guest sign-in table, or even the sweetheart table! With table glow you are able to add accent lighting to typically any table at your wedding. If your wedding has an outdoor space, use uplights under tables placed on decks, balconies, or by any seated area. The possibilities are endless! The only limit is your imagination. Below are photos of uplights used in weddings, use them as a springboard for your own imagination.
