The Most Flattering Lip Color For Your Wedding Day

by BridalPulse

Remember earlier this year when industry insiders were suggesting you use the color of your nipples to find the perfect shade of nude lipstick? “Nature knows best,” they said, with the idea being a similar shade of lipstick will be naturally-flattering. While this is a creative way of approaching department store counters, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it.

I get it, though: Finding a complexion-complementing nude is challenging. Makeup is complex stuff. If you pick a color too similar to your natural skin tone, your lips virtually disappear, creating that dreaded deadening effect. But on the other hand, if you go too beige or opaque, lips can skew brown. That’s why makeup artists now recommend going for a nude pink lipstick.

“Women are leaning more towards natural-looking shades of creamy pink—it’s the new nude,” says celebrity makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor. “Instead of erasing lips, you want to define them.”

“Choose a shade that doesn’t deepen your lip color, but adds the slightest touch of pink for a fresh and youthful appearance,” adds celebrity makeup artist Brian Duprey. The subtle pop of color will keep you from looking washed out or tired. Go for a matte or gloss, says Durprey, just avoid those with beige or peachy undertones.
