One of the most fun tasks as a bridesmaid is helping the bride pick out her dream dress! It can be a tricky situation though, from budget constraints to sorting through all of the different wedding dress styles, it’s easy to commit some major bridesmaid faux pas. Just follow these five easy steps to make sure that the experience is exciting and drama-free!
1. Use Social Media
Before you start shopping, try to get a general sense of the look and feel that your bestie wants in a wedding dress. You can follow wedding websites on Instagram and Pinterest, and tag your friend so that she can easily check them out. You can also create a joint Pinterest board which will make it easy to show stylists what she is looking for when you start shopping.
2. Research Salons and Help Make Appointments
Chances are your bestie is a bit overwhelmed with booking venues for the wedding. If you have time, look up a few nearby salons and send her the reviews as well. You can even offer to make calls and set up appointments so that she has one less thing to worry about.
3. Take as Many Pictures as You Can
Once it’s finally time for the bride to start trying on dresses, get your camera ready! Mirrors can be deceiving, so try to snap as many pictures as possible so she can get an accurate idea of which dresses are the most flattering. Plus if you have multiple appointments, your bride will love being able to easily compare dresses that she tried on at different salons.
4. Help Her Envision the Final Look
Make sure your bestie has a chance to imagine herself as a bride! Remind her to bring heels to the appointment and encourage her to try the dresses on with a veil or other accessories like jewelry or a beautiful belt.
5. Let Her Make Her Own Decision
The most important thing to remember is that you are helping the bride find HER dream dress. Try to gauge how she is feeling in each dress that she tries on before you give a reaction so that you don’t accidentally discourage her from choosing her favorite one. Also, remember to be respectful of her budget and avoid forcing her to try on anything that she cannot afford.
