A Rustic-Chic Winery Wedding In Temecula, California

by Katherine Callaghan

It was The Golden State of California that brought this happy together. Chris moved to Los Angeles from the UK and, Gabrielle moved to California from Wisconsin. To get better acquainted with their new neighborhood, they both joined meetup.com, a networking website meant to bring people together in their community. After connecting on meetup.com, their friendship quickly turned into a relationship and the rest was history for these two lovebirds.

Gabrielle and Chris got married in the fall of 2017 at the Lorimar Vineyards and Winery in Temecula, California.  This Real Wedding is extra special to the BridalPulse team. Gabrielle was the winner of our Maggie Sottero Wedding Dress giveaway last year and we are so happy she found the Maggie Sottero gown of her dreams. Gabrielle married her best friend in the beautiful Avery dress, which complemented her beautiful winery wedding.

THE PROPOSAL

Chris proposed to me while on vacation in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on a balcony overlooking the sea and the walled city during a romantic thunderstorm.

I chose the wedding dress that I did because it was beautiful, elegant, and made me feel like a princess. It fit my winery wedding aesthetic completely and it felt a lot lighter than a lot of dresses I had tried on, which was important to me since Temecula can get hot in September. I loved everything about my dress and I received so many compliments!

CEREMONY

Photo: Savannah Rae Sullins

Our ceremony was set in the middle of a vineyard with a mountain backdrop. It was an intimate affair. My uncle officiated and kept the ceremony light-hearted. We wrote our own vows to make them as special as possible, and we decided on a wine unity ceremony with wine from the vineyard.

Fall has always been my favorite season. We got married amongst the vines and knew that the grapes on the vines would be at their fullest just before harvest in September, which is why we chose this month to get married.

The venue was based on what we love: drinking wine in beautiful places. Given the type of venue, a rustic theme seemed fitting. We didn’t need much in the way of decorations as the backdrop was stunning enough.

PORTRAITS

Our wedding colors were burgundy, red, and navy blue with peach and gold accents. The main color within the bridal bouquet was burgundy, peach, and ivory. We used burgundy dahlias, peach, ivory roses, and eucalyptus to fit the color scheme and style I had in mind. We bought the flowers in bulk from a floral wholesaler and my mom, bridesmaids and myself made the bouquets.

We had some photos taken in front of the vines and then moved to the orange groves adjacent to the vineyards. We relied on our photographer’s expertise to pick the best locations within the Lorimar property for our photos. The sun was setting and they turned out great!

 RECEPTION

Our reception carried on the rustic theme and was set in another part of the vineyard property. It was outdoors with overhead market lighting and dancing took place in the barrel room.

We had a head table on a raised pergola with the rest of the guests around roundtables on the lawn.

We like to make hard cider so our guestbook was an oak barrel with our names engraved that we plan to age cider in. Guests signed the outside of it with a bronze sharpie.

We took dance lessons for our first dance, “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett, which made the dance even more special.
