Los Angeles Meets London Real Wedding by Sky Events & Production
This Los Angeles wedding was a joy to design! Grooms Jonathan and Lee wanted a classic, modern and masculine theme to reflect their sophisticated personalities—injected, of course, with a dash of whimsy. Held at West Hollywood’s The London hotel and with fabulous direction from wedding coordinator, Carrie Goldberg of Touch of Gold Events, the wedding theme married Los Angeles savvy with British sophistication. The two couldn’t have been happier with the day, and I couldn’t be happier for them!
Jonathan and Lee got ready for their big day at the London in West Hollywood. The two dapper grooms wore bespoke tuxes by Jonathan Behr and Calvin Klein and donned White Calla Lily boutonnieres. Their sisters were an important part of the ceremony, so they wore matching Navy blue dresses by Alfred Sung and carried complementing bouquets. The black and white theme with understated pops of red and minimal florals were a perfect combination for a masculine and modern touch. The red bow tie and elegant black and white theme was also shown on the beautiful invitations, menu cards, and escort cards designed and printed by Touch of Gold Events. Although their special day included rain showers, they didn’t let that put a damper on their wedding. Instead the duo used this opportunity to sport matching umbrellas for some really fun photos like the one above with the giant chess board!
Due to the rain, the entire wedding had to be moved indoors. But we rolled with it, and so did Jonathan and Lee! They exchanged “I do’s” on a raised white alter with their sisters flanking the stage. Submerged Calla Lilies and floating candles offered subtle light and ornamentation against a black backdrop, fitting perfectly with the sophisticated black-and-white theme the grooms were looking for.
Red Tie Affair
The black-and-white palette extended though the reception, creating a timeless setting. For a special entrance, I loved the idea of creating a shadow box for Jonathan and Lee’s escort table. We made a space between the table and its glass top and put white orchids and candles in between. For another personal touch, the grooms incorporated a red bow tie (to match the ones they wore) into many aspects of the theme—including the cake, menu, dance floor and stationary. Guests even took home whimsical “tuxedo” chocolate covered strawberries. The tables were decorated with white roses, tulips and hydrangeas in classic silver vases. Despite having to move everything inside, the reception turned out beautifully and exuded the masculine, sophisticated mood the grooms wanted. I couldn’t have been happier with the day!
