This Industrial Chic Chicago Wedding Was Full of Love and Laughter
The love between Amanda and Jarrett is palpable. Jarrett coordinated the sweetest and most thoughtful proposal for Amanda, and months later, the couple celebrated their big day at the Ravenswood Event Center in Chicago. Thanks to our friends over at George Street Photo & Video, here’s a close look at the wedding of Amanda and Jarrett and all the details of their special day.

Jarrett came up with an amazing surprise for his proposal. My family is from Chicago and we currently live in Saint Louis. I was home visiting for the Fourth of July and Jarrett was going to be meeting us in Chicago before we drove up to our lake house in Michigan altogether. My parents told me we were going out to dinner in the city so we took the train down, meanwhile Jarrett had taken the five hour dive from Saint Louis to Chicago in a suit and was planning on meeting us at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park. My Dad said we should walk through Grant Park because the restaurant was just on the edge of the park. He then said we should stop and take a picture in front of the fountain. As we were getting our picture taken, Jarrett came up behind me and surprised me with flowers and the proposal. There was a photographer in the bushes nearby who caught the whole thing. We then walked to the restaurant where my best friends met us to celebrate! It was unbelievable!
The bridesmaids and myself began our day at my friend’s apartment in the city which she decorated beautifully. She even had photos from our engagement hung up and a photobooth with props! We got ready there while the groom and groomsmen got ready at the hotel we would later stay at. My Dad and I had out first look before Jarrett arrived.
We had our first look on the top of the apartment building and then joined our bridal party and parents on the bus to head to Lincoln Park for pictures.
The best advice I received was to do a first look with my future husband. We were both totally against it until our event coordinator at Ravenswood Event Center gave us a new perspective on the idea. She explained it as an opportunity to have a quiet moment just the two of us.
I would say my favorite moments of the night were our first look on the rooftop, doing the sparkler photos with our closest family and friends and our first dance because our band played the song perfectly and it finally felt real that we were married!
After pictures we headed to the Ravenswood Even Center. Our ceremony took place under a wooden arbor that my husband made on the top floor of the building (atrium) at 6pm. Our guests then went one floor down to the cocktail hour where appetizers and drinks were served. We then took our sparkler photos with our bridal party in front of the venue. Following the cocktail hour we were introduced on the main floor for the reception. We had a live band and a late night taco stand for our guests.
My wedding’s theme was more about the color palette and the feeling I wanted my guests to feel as they entered the venue.
We chose a neutral palette of whites, creams, blacks and accents of rose gold, mercury glass and other metals. We used a lot of greenery in our flowers to add some color. Our florists created amazing arrangements that perfectly captured my vision. Our venue was in a beautiful building so we wanted to keep the decor simple to show off all the gorgeous features like the exposed brick and wood floors.
The advice I would give to couples planning now would be to make the day unique to you. Don’t feel like you have to waste time in the night on traditions that don’t feel like you. We chose to get rid of the garter toss and the bouquet toss because it wasn’t something that felt normal to us. We wanted to spend the night enjoying our guests, the food and everything we had planned all year long instead of being whisked away for different things all night long. We even joined our guests for cocktail hour which allowed us to do some socializing before the the reception.
We went to Maui for our honeymoon and it was wonderful! We had so much fun exploring the island in our Jeep Wrangler we rented and snorkeling the different areas. We did the sunrise at Haleakala, the road to Hana and several other excursions. We enjoyed every moment of it!
We look forward to the exciting journey ahead! We have always loved going on adventures together and I know we will always keep life exciting!
